Inscape launched Project81 in 2015 with the sole focus of driving innovation and entrepreneurship amongst its students. Project81 is an initiative developed to identify and promote 81 unique and innovative products, design by Inscape students, annually.

The top selected 81 products were launched to the public at the South African Innovation Summit in August 2015 as well as exhibited on the Project 81 website where potential investors and the general community could comment, like or show investment interest in their favourite ideas.

Bashar Zapen, the winning student from Inscape Cape Town campus received his full year’s tuition fees paid back to him as well as the opportunity to develop his product into a working prototype made possible by the Product Development Technology Station (PDTS), at the Central University of Technology in the Free State.

Project81 kicked off in 2016 with a phenomenal partnership with Belgotex Flooring. Belgotex teamed up with Inscape as title sponsor with the projects main focus on creating new products from upcycled waste.

Project 81 is a real-world student project where students are faced with the challenges of working in creative teams, managing and driving innovation and sustainability, job creation and creative thinking within business boundaries.
